Trump heads to ‘high-stakes’ Alaska summit with Putin on Ukraine
ABOARD AIR FORCE ONE/MOSCOW, Aug 15 (Reuters) — Donald Trump flew to Alaska on Friday for what he described as a “high-stakes” summit with Russia’s Vladimir Putin, aiming to negotiate a ceasefire in Ukraine to help end the deadliest conflict in Europe since World War Two.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy, excluded from the talks, and his European allies fear Trump could undermine Ukraine’s position by effectively freezing the conflict and, even if only informally, acknowledging Russian control over one-fifth of Ukraine.
